What is accessible web design?
We build websites that are accessible to everyone, from any machine, anywhere because we understand access needs – our chief designer is disabled!
All our websites meet the WC3 web standards and all our pages aim for Priority 3 (AAA) accessibility; surpassing world standards (WC3) and access guidelines, the UK Disability Discrimination Act and the Publicly Available Specification (PAS). Good access for disability also means our sites are always multi-browser/multi -platform including mobile-phones and the new in-car browsing systems. Where the technology does not exist or is slow to “catch up” with access needs, we always provide accessible alternatives as standard.
What is website accessibility anyway?
- Website Accessibility means that our pages are accessible to all visitors with a disability who might use speech readers, keyboard only (no mouse), have difficulties with text, need high contrast or large text. – Try using the “tab” key on your keyboard to navigate the links on this page – it is so quick you may not use your mouse ever again!
- Accessible websites are also multi-platform (different internet browsers) and multi-device (PCs, Apple Macs, mobile phones) and easy to navigate and customise to your own settings.
What are the accessibility guidelines?
Priority 1 – A Web content developer must satisfy this checkpoint. Otherwise, one or more groups will find it impossible to access information in the document. Satisfying this checkpoint is a basic requirement for some groups to be able to use Web documents.
Priority 2 – A Web content developer should satisfy this checkpoint. Otherwise, one or more groups will find it difficult to access information in the document. Satisfying this checkpoint will remove significant barriers to accessing Web documents.
Priority 3 -A Web content developer may address this checkpoint. Otherwise, one or more groups will find it somewhat difficult to access information in the document. Satisfying this checkpoint will improve access to Web documents.
